March Newsletter
Can you believe 3rd quarter will end this month??
This month our focus and cheers go with the Girls Basketball team!!
We are also desperately looking for help for our PTSA. We understand Jr. High can be a daunting place for adults and maybe our kids don't want us there, but PTSA is a great way to keep in touch with what is going on with student and the school. We find that so many parents quit volunteering once their kids enter the secondary school, and honestly, we still need the help! Please contact Kim Eschler at 801-791-7825 if you are interest in offering your time.

February PTSA meeting
Minutes for February 8, 2011
~Review budget- 1. Fundraiser/Banners 2. Dinner nights 3. Donuts/Store
At this time we have $5757.02 in the bank. Items still be paid are Teacher Appreciation, Volunteer Appreciation, end of year stomp, continuing donuts and end of year stomp. We have adjusted to only holding family dinners once a quarter, we have Wendy’s and Papa Murphy’s left.
~ Scorpion of the month: Dates are; 11/18, 1/20, 2/24, 3/24, 4/21 times help is needed are from 9-10am
~Parent Teacher Conferences/Volunteer appreciation: From 12:30-1:15 we are getting a Taco cart for the teachers and Volunteers to say thank you.
~Teacher appreciation week: We will do a lunch one day, and a small gift one day. Ideas are welcome.
~End of year stomp: We are looking at hiring the 97.1 DJ from earlier this year, he has enough black lights to light the gym. We were thinking a Neon beach theme. More info to come. Mr. Marchant will follow up with a date for us.
~Pancake breakfast: May 20 with our last donut date. We will pre sell tickets and invite the feeder 6th graders and their families.
~Next year/letter to students: We are really trying to reach incoming parents. A slide with Kim’s information has been added to the 6th grade registration info. A letter will go home with 6th graders in April about SRJH PTSA, the feeder elementary are putting notes in their newsletters too. Mr. Marchant will look into getting us the emails from the district so that we may reach the parents. We will also push for better communication to all parents.
Chair positions available with PTSA: President, Pres. Elect, Treasurer, Stomps*, Donuts*, Fundraiser*, Shirts*, Membership, Dinner Nights, Email/Blog/Facebook, Reflections, Teacher SEP lunches and Teacher Appreciation. (*Requires volunteers to run events.)

Hello Scorpions,
Isn't life great! The year is half way over and soon the sun will shine (we hope). But to add a little sunshine to your life the side bar has been updated with the things to look forward to in February.
Your PTSA is excited to see the banner up in the gym, that you all worked so hard for. Those will be there for generation of Scorpions to enjoy and we are proud to have gotten them for the school.
We are also gearing up for next school year, and we are in need of some volunteers! PTA is a lot easier in Junior High, but still needs about 10 people (or more) willing to commit to making it work. This year most of our board members are moving on and we need help for next year! We have some great traditions in place, so no one will need to reinvent the wheel to help out, we just need committed parents to step in and make a difference for our school. If you are that person, or know someone you could suggest, please let Kim Eschler know.
And... PLEASE feel free to join us for an open PTSA on Feb 8!!

"Farr" better family night!!!
Thursday December 9, join us from 5:30-8:30 at Farr's Fresh located at 1912 W 1800 N, Clinton. We will earn 20% of sales that night AND if you bring a non-perishable food donations for our SBO's food drive you will receive a coupon to come back to Farr's Fresh at check out.

Halloween, Fundraisers and more
WOW.. Your PTSA is busy!!
From now till Friday November 5th we are having our Cheerydale Candy Bar Fundraiser. Our goal is to raise enough money to buy banners for our gym and for selling you get great prizes! For selling one box you get a coupon for a FREE Vintage Cupcake, For selling two boxes you get a wonderful recycled, good smelling Smencil and Smen and for selling 4 boxes you get a mystery envelop with CASH!! Not to mention our top sellers will get prizes too!! (2) $50, (3) $25 and (5) $10... you know you want some money!!!
On Thursday we are sponsoring the annual PTSA Halloween stomp.. wear your approved costume for school and come to the stomp for friends, music, fun and a contest... Mr. Maag is DJing.. it's going to rock!!
And this month we are excited about our Chick Fl A family dinner night on the 18th. They are kindly donating 25% of all sales sold between 5pm and 8pm... WOW... and make sure to say HAY to the Cow at lunch on the 18th. PLEASE come join us for dinner!

This years PTA Reflections Contest theme is "Together we can...". Students can submit art projects in various categories. These entries are judged with their peers and if they are in the top of their category, could possibly move on to Council, District, State or even Nationals!
Our entries are due October 11 and awards will be held early November.

7th grade orientation
Monday, August 23rd we are helping the councilors with 7th grade orientation from 4-5pm. During this time our newest students will get to know each other, practice on their lockers, find all their classes and have a great time! There will be treats and prizes and the parents can meet with staff to find out what to expect during this new adventure of Junior High!!
Now.. if you don't have a 7th grade student.. we would LOVE some help!! We are in need of 3 or more volunteers to make this work, please get leave a note here, or contact Kim at 801.791.7825 if you are available to help.

The first day of school is the 25th! Things to do before then:
~ Stop in and to get registered and your school picture taken, Aug 16 from 8:30-11 in the commons.
~ Come try your locker one more time and say hello to your teachers, Aug. 23 from 4-7. 7th graders, come meet other 7th graders and try to find your classes Aug 23 from 4-5 while Mom and Dad attend a meeting all about your (and their) new journey of Junior High!
~ Stop by and see your PTSA at either or both of these events and get your new shirt pre-ordered, pick up an old shirt for a great price and join your PTSA!!
